A few days ago,my relatives from Malaysia came over for a visit...a business-cum-leisure trip. Their main purpose was for business, but since there's still time, they came over to visit my family.
Ok,my cousins had tagged along on the business trip. So while my relatives went on their business trip,my parents decided to bring them to the
pasar malam. I went along to see if i could buy anything(Its time for new clothes!!).
Forgot to mention...3 cousins tagged along on. Age 11,10,and 9.
Now,here comes the main thing that i wanna talk about.....
While walking to the
pasar malam,we have to walk through a underground MRT station. While walking through the station,a train pulled in.
"Eh..it's a train yeh." said my 9 year old cousin in her usual Malaysian tone.
"Yah..." came my reply.
"...but i thought trains are suppose to be above ground?" she questioned me.
"No...trains can also travel underground." i didn't know what else to reply her.
"Want to take a ride in the train?" i asked.
"Nope."she replied in a cute voice. "I'm afraid"
This answer stunned me.
"Why leh?"
"Because i've never travelled on a train before, and it's travelling so fast i scared that it's not safe"
This less-than-a-minute conversation left me a deep impression...Singapore children are more fortunate than young Malaysians. Though my cousin is not as poor as my family in Malaysia, but 9 years of her life had already, and she hasn't taken a train.
I don't really know what to say already.....
